Lenice I. Fassbender, 80, of Janesville, WI died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Huntington Place Memory Care. Lenice was born in Fennimore, WI on July 28, 1934, the daughter of William and Hazel (Porter) Purkapile. She graduated from Fennimore High School and married Delbert L. Fassbender on June 16, 1952 at the Fennimore Methodist Church. Lenice was employed by the National Food/Del Farm Store in Janesville and later became a cook for the Janesville School System eventually becoming the head cook at Craig High School. She also cooked for various Janesville restaurants over the years. She was a member of Cargill United Methodist Church where she was a member of the quilting group. She was a charter member of the Rock Valley Quilters Guild and taught quilting at the Janesville Senior Center. Lenice was a long-time active member of the Women of the Moose Lodge # 477. She enjoyed making many anniversary and birthday cakes for her family.
Lenice is survived by her husband of 62 years, Delbert, 1 son, Jerry (Deb) Fassbender of Elkhorn, daughter-in-law, Susan Fassbender of Janesville, 4 grandchildren, Jami (Kevin) Wenzel, Jennifer (Marty) Block, Kory Fassbender, Kelly (Egemen) Gozoglu, 3 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Braeden and Tyler, 2 brothers, Robert (Margaret) Purkapile, William (Special friend-Margaret ) Purkapile, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, William Fassbender, her parents, her sister, Marion Nyborg and her brother, Ivan Purkapile.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Janesville Moose Center, 2701 Rockport Road, Janesville. Rev. Forrest R. Wells will officiate. The family will meet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Janesville Moose Center. Private entombment will be at Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Fassbender family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
